4th of July Fire Patrols

An Update from the Oakland Firesafe Council:

Every July 4th, the Oakland Radio Communication Association (ORCA - Amateur/Ham radio) performs mobile wildfire patrols in the Oakland Hills, this year from 5pm - 9pm. ORCA volunteers in their vehicles drive, observe and report any signs of fire or smoke as well as illegal fireworks using their Ham radios. This is in partnership with the Oakland Fire Dept and Emergency Management Services Division.

The Firesafe Council's GENOAK 2-way radio network will also be activated on the evening of July 4th. GENOAK radio operators can observe locally and report emergencies to 911, and update others via their 2-way radios if there's an incident. This could be from anywhere in Oakland/East Bay, as fire (e.g. from fireworks) is a possibility anywhere, not just in the hills.
